A showreel is the single most impactful document of an actor’s talent that they can possess. It contains scenes from films, TV shows and other visual media that you have appeared in. It’s a summary of your specific talents that conveys the range of your performance skills in a very direct and engaging way.
A showreel is a vital tool for you to share your specific talents with a casting director, producer or director, who will evaluate your suitability for a potential role. FAQ
WHAT FORMATS DO YOU ACCEPT FOOTAGE IN?
Footage can be sourced from DVDs, digital files (MP4, mov), and transferred via online links to file sharing services. I can also download footage from YouTube or Vimeo. Ripping from streaming services (Netflix, BBC iPlayer etc) is not possible due to very high levels of Digital Rights Management. I can not source footage from VHS tapes.
HOW DO WE GET STARTED?
I will ask you to send me the footage, with time codes to the exact scenes you want to use. We will then discuss the needs of your reel and the way you would like to be presented. I will put together a rough edit, along with some suggestions on how to possibly refine into a final edit. If you have any questions or requests at any point during the process, I will be more than happy to accommodate them. This is your showreel and I want you be 100% percent happy with it before delivering the final edit.
CAN YOU HELP ME DECIDE WHAT FOOTAGE TO USE IN MY SHOWREEL?
Yes, by all means! If you are unsure of the exact scenes to use and/or how to order them, I will be more than happy to help you decide and ensure that your reel is the best possible representation of your performance skills. The final decision will always rest with you.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO EDIT MY SHOWREEL?
If provided with all the footage at the beginning of the process, I aim to deliver within 7 days. I understand that it’s not always possible to have access to all the necessary footage immediately. This time frame can vary.
HOW LONG SHOULD MY SHOWREEL BE?
The average length of a showreel is generally considered to be between 2 to 3 and a half minutes. If you have a lot of compelling footage that you would like to use, I suggest not going beyond 5 minutes. I would also not recommend montages, as modern casting directors consider them to be excessive and distracting. The more punchy and to the point the showreel can be, the better!
HOW WILL THE FINAL EDIT BE DELIVERED TO ME?
This will be sent as an MP4 file roughly 300 to 500 megabytes in size. This will ensure that your reel is of the highest possible visual and audio quality. This can be uploaded to your website, Vimeo, Spotlight or anywhere you may wish to host it. I'm happy to help if you require assistance with this process.
CAN YOU FILM SPECIFIC SCENES TO BE USED IN MY SHOWREEL?
I do not currently offer this as a service. I can edit only existing footage from short films, feature films, TV programmes, commercials and music videos.
I'M NOT AN ACTOR. CAN YOU STILL EDIT MY SHOWREEL?
If you are a theater actor, comedian, presenter, magician or dancer, as long as you have recent footage of you performing, I can edit a showreel for you. Please contact me before ordering so we can discuss the details of your specific needs.

Hello, I’m Clay Sandford, a filmmaker from the South West of the UK with over 5 years of experience as a writer, director and editor of short narrative films. My work has been screened at festivals across the UK, including Cambridge University's annual Watersprite Film Festival and the Cornwall Film Festival.
